Who do I think is a New Elizabethan

Beyonce Knowles

BeyoncĂ©'s success would seem to offer many reasons for feminists to cheer. The performer has enjoyed record-breaking career success and has taken control of a multimillion-dollar empire in a male-run industry, while being frank about gender inequities and the sacrifices required of women. She employs an all-woman band of ace musicians—the Sugar Mamas—that she formed to give girls more musical role models. And she speaks passionately about the power of female relationships.

Leading Women connects you to extraordinary women of our time -- remarkable professionals who have made it to the top in all areas of business, the arts, sport, culture, science and more. With 17 Grammy awards, $75 million in world record sales and a fourth world tour underway, Beyonce is one of the world's biggest names in show business. Her name appears everywhere from fashion labels to fragrance bottles and Pepsi commercials. On the heels of her own HBO documentary 'Life Is But A Dream', she and husband Jay-Z were also named the pop music industry's first billionaire couple.

From granting Oprah an exclusive OWN interview to supporting President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, Beyonce's proven her influence extends well beyond her voice by making friends in high places. In return, Obama called the singer "a role model for his daughters"at an election fundraiser hosted by the power couple and she performed the national anthem at his second inauguration.

I think Beyonce Knowles is a New Elizabethan because I think she is a major part of our New Elizabethan Society today. Every year she grows, and grows more powerful within the industry and society. Beyonce is known to be a feminists and I think by doing this and supporting women she is supported by millions of girls and women around the world. She is proud of her sexuality and her high status of being a independent women, and today by many people and the tabloid she is classed as Queen B, a powerful figure in today's society. The image I have chosen to portray Beyonce as a New Elizabethan is the photo on the right, this photo is the cover for the advertisement for her world tour called 'The Mrs Carter Show'. Beyonce is classed as a Queen, this is because she is a powerful figure and impacts the world so many people look up to her. This photo of Beyonce is for her world tour is based around herself, they came up with the Idea that for her most recent tour for her to actually be portrayed as the Queen society has made her. In the photo she has a gold body corset with red and gold jewels hanging, as gold and red are portrayed as royal colours. A reign stick, pearls around the neck ( very Elizabeth 1) a big gold and black chair placed behind with a thick fur throw. Her hair is up in a loose curly beehive off to one side with a gold crown placed on top, the hair design contains a lot of Elizabethan elements as the curled hair and beehive with jewels on top were very popular for upper class people in the 16th century.

U.S. President Obama greets Beyonce after she sings at the inauguration ceremony in January 2013.
